Golden Age Superman
005 Golden Age Superman -- September 1938

Hello, and welcome again to Golden Age Superman.  This week, we're taking a look at Action Comics 5, which is probably my favorite issue we've done so far.  The Superman story is a little shorter, but it's a rather good action-packed adventure with Superman saving a town from a ruptured dam.  Also, the Superman/Clark/Lois triangle officially starts with this issue.  So come check it out!

The show is now being supported by the Superman Homepage, the largest Superman news/information site on the Internet, and if by chance you've never been, I strongly encourage you to check it out.

Golden Age Superman is a proud member of the Superman Podcast Network.  If you wish to send feedback, you may do so in the comments below or via email.  Also, come visit me on Facebook, where you'll receive updates for new episode postings and such.  You can also subscribe to the show through iTunes, and leave a review if you like to spread the word to others.  Thank you so much for listening!

  • Well, shows how good 40-plus years of memory are. I did a little searching and found a write-up complete with mp3 files of two of the adventures. What I didn't remember is that it was indeed billed (erroneously) as "Superman's first adventure from Action Comics #1." I think it was probably rather the first adventure that would work well as such an adaptation. Listen to those mp3s! http://supermanfan.nu/collectibles/leothelion_record.htm Great stuff! - Cheers, Kent

  • This is a _great_ podcast. I discovered it (I think through your posting on a Facebook group I'm also in) a couple of weeks ago and have been having a ball listening to it from the beginning. The story "Superman and the Dam" really brings back memories for me. When I was just a kid, ca. 1966 I think, it was one of several Superman stories that were dramatized on an LP album - the cover is shown here: http://www.supermanhomepage.com/images/merchandise/superman_record-tb.html. Being about 5 at the time, I had no idea it was from one of the very first Superman stories in Action Comics. I only knew it was an authentic Golden Age adventure when I found it in Jules Feiffer's book _The Great Comic Book Heroes_ a few years later. Thanks for the memories. - Kent
